An idea whose time has come:
bloomingtonArts.info
In Bloomington, we're very fortunate to have an enormous wealth of
creative performances and arts events taking place every week. There
are plays, concerts, dance performances, art openings, lectures, films
. . . the list extends to the horizon. But, with this wealth of options
comes something of a burden - trying to keep track of this enormous
range of arts events, to find out about the great, cool, interesting
performances before they happen. This has not been an easy task.
Artists and performers have a completely different perspective
on this problem. They wonder: How can we get the word out about our
event? How can we plan events to avoid scheduling conflicts? How can we
reach people who are curious, interested, and looking for something to
do? How can we sell more tickets?
After a lot of study, research, discussion, and collaboration
with the widest range of Bloomington artists, managers, and arts
consumers, we think we have a solution to these problems.
On September 6, 2005, the Bloomington Area Arts Council
launched bloomingtonArts.info
- a web-based master calendar of area arts events and information
sources.
At bloomingtonArts.info
you can:
- Find out about events taking place tonight and this
weekend
Instead of looking through a variety of websites, newsletters, and
short listings, you now have access to extensive descriptions of
events, often with photographs and links to sponsoring organizations'
websites. You can zero-in on the events that interest you and connect
to detailed information about each event.
- Find out what's happening next month
A long-term events calendar helps you plan ahead. Now if guests are
coming in from out-of-town, you'll know what's available.
- Sign up for the bloomingtonArts
weekly event email
At the beginning of each week, you'll receive an email arts calendar
focusing on the type of arts events you are most interested in.
- Buy tickets for arts events
At bloomingtonArts.info
it's easy to buy advance tickets for many events with your credit card.
You can pick up your tickets at the event itself. No more being turned
away by sold-out performances.
The BAAC has been actively working with local arts
organizations, visionaries, and technologists to plan and develop the
site. Gerry Sousa, Vice President of the Arts Council Board of
Trustees, has volunteered his time as project developer and manager.
Other key volunteers include Sandi Clark and A. John Rose. BCS
Advertising is our marketing partner. Envisage, a Bloomington
multi-media business, developed the site.
We are particularly grateful to our primary funding partners:
the City of Bloomington and Verizon Foundation.
